Italy is a pretty large country by European standards, I think it might be best to specify by region. I’ve been to the east side of Sicily and the Mediterranean coast near Savona.
To me, Porto is still on my to-do list. Also Albania is said to be a nice place to visit. Another is the Istria region of Croatia.
Rome has some incredibly impressive sights, but I find it’s a difficult city to visit. Finding good food as a tourist is a challenge (though not impossible - I had my best ever restaurant experience there), and distances are crazy without fantastic public transportation. But it has some lovely neighbourhoods, and for me the size of the city walls left a lasting impact. It’s hard to wrap one’s head around the history.
For me though, the best thing about Rome is how fast one can get to Naples by train. Now that is a city!
I’d love to go to Italy. There’s so much to see and do, it’s vivacious and the food is amazing.
