Vinny_93@lemmy.worldto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•why are website language switchers in the current language?3·2 days agoSince Fairphone is Dutch it kinda makes sense they’d make this mistake. I suppose if you’d e-mail them about it they’d be open to making the change. They’re probably not even aware of it.
It gets more difficult if even the script is different. I once installed some Chinese app that would put the language picker in Mandarin and their symbols. I really didn’t know how to change it to anything I could understand so I’d go by all of them one by one until I found a language I understood.
It was always gonna be 2050 before it became 2000 so technically we’ve been closer to 2050 for over 25 years
Clearly you mean 52413

Vinny_93@lemmy.worldto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What's the most unexpectedly useful item you've ever bought under $20?71·5 days agoNot sure what you mean by this. Are you just trying to gage some reason because it’s a German company? They made heating pads, heated blankets, stuff like that.
Vinny_93@lemmy.worldto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What's the most unexpectedly useful item you've ever bought under $20?73·5 days agoOh man, there’s this German company Beurer that makes simple equipment for medical home application. They make this sort of zapper thing, which is battery oper and it just heats the shit out of a little ceramic plate. Put that on a bug bite, it heats away the irritation. No more itch, no more venom in your body, just gone.
I am no longer careful around biting bugs. Keep in mind it’s not supposed to work for stingers.
I figured for 15 euros it’d be too bad if it doesn’t work but I now can’t imagine not having it.
I’ve since also bought a TENS/EMS machine of theirs and a laser hair removal tool is underway for my wife.
I completely trust this company based on just two products.
Vinny_93@lemmy.worldto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Are you learning another language? How far along are you?9·6 days agoPortugal is a lovely country and I’ve decided to go visiting it a lot in my life. I feel more comfortable abroad if I at least kind of speak the language. English and German are no issue for me, French goes in a pinch so I’m pretty comfortable in western Europe but I’d like to be more comfortable with the Mediterranean languages. In due time I might try learning Italian as well.
Vinny_93@lemmy.worldto Mildly Interesting@lemmy.world•Computer drive sizes over the years241·6 days agoApples and oranges, though. The left two are hard drives, the right two are solid state drives (ie flash memory). They kind of serve the same purpose, but there is quite a big step in between 2 and 3. 2.5" HDDs also exist, though. Then again, so do 1TB MicroSD cards. And 2280 M.2 SSDs. But also huge tapes that are still in use for backup purposes.
Vinny_93@lemmy.worldto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Are you learning another language? How far along are you?14·6 days agoI’ve been learning Portuguese for well over two years now. I think I’ve got a pretty good handle on sentence building. The grammar of verb tense is sometimes still somewhat confusing and I think I’ve got a lot of words to learn still.
But if I read posts on Lemmy in Brazilian Portuguese, I kinda get the gist of it.

There’s this FBI dude in Poker Face who also drinks milk a lot and at some point he just chugs a cup of half and half at a coffee machine.

It’s not new that online functionality is turned off after the player base dies down, but to be completely unable to play a game that can be played offline is crazy.
So now there’s a petition circulating, but it’s nearing its end. There are only a couple of days left I think.
It’s a petition for the EU (or maybe Europe or the EER, I’m not sure), and every country needs a certain amount of signatures. I think some Mediterranean island nations are still lagging, but most countries have plenty now.
If you’re in Europe, find the petition and sign it. Especially if you live in Malta or Cyprus.
Ah no I started at one. You can transpose my list by one and set zeven as 12.

Dutch is an Anglo-Saxon language so that makes sense.
Acht, drie, een, elf, negen, tien, twaalf, twee, vier, vijf, zes, zeven.

For real though, Toto is not letting go of Antonelli and he just cannot ignore the form George is on. Talks are nice and everything, but why pay more for a driver that loses to McLarens anyway but has won titles in a car that was just way better? Russell can win those WDCs as well.

Italy is a pretty large country by European standards, I think it might be best to specify by region. I’ve been to the east side of Sicily and the Mediterranean coast near Savona.
To me, Porto is still on my to-do list. Also Albania is said to be a nice place to visit. Another is the Istria region of Croatia.
