It’s a sad day when “you can find us over on Discord” is a better option.
A geologist and archaeologist by training, a nerd by inclination - books, films, fossils, comics, rocks, games, folklore, and, generally, the rum and uncanny… Let’s have it!

Could this be used in place of a CDN?
The idea has been raised a few times that this could be a way to get longer videos on the Fediverse
Cinetimes uses it to stream what it claims are public domain films but, looking over the offerings they may be playing a bit fast and loose with that definition.
EDIT: I missed the faq with a list of projects that use it. That list has some really cool, useful services i might start using!

So there is a Hubzilla plugin. I don’t know what I’d do with it but it is interesting to see.
PeerWeb sounds intriguing. You could have truly decentralised web sites.
Thank you so much for initiating this program.
I’m not the creator - full credit goes to Stefano Marinelli.
As far as I can tell this is a desktop plugin. On mobile it only brings across the plain text.
And what if we also wanted to boycott the OG Nazi firms?
High praise indeed from you, The Altfather.
If you head up Ullapool way it gets very empty between there and Cape Wrath. If you walk along the coast you’ll often stumble across seals sunning themselves who just ignore you as they see so few people. It’s also otherworldly - they used it for the witch planet in Ahsoka.
I needed it to save as markdown from my phone.
There are various bots that do this.
Has this happened yet?
Yeah, following people on Lemmy is not really doable but I definitely see content when I go to:
I use Obsidian with Zettel Notes on my phone to access and edit the MD files in Obsidian, as it is much faster for dashing off a quick note. ZN also has tools that allow you to save a web page or selection as MD which is very handy indeed.
I have largely given up on red meat and cow’s milk, I do sometimes have a bit of lamb. It’s definitely doable.
So you are saying… Thanos was right?
Apparently.
The prime minister, in an unexpected statement in parliament, announced spending would be increased to 2.5% of the UK’s GDP by 2027.
He also announced the government would cut back on foreign aid, reducing current spending from 0.5% of GDP to 0.3%.
Bit depressing that they can find the cash for weapons.
On the auto-selector, I’ve said it before but join-fediverse needs to ask a few questions: Service? Location? Language? Hobbies? And then it spits out one or two recommendations, with an option to load more.
While I’d be fine with an auto-selector (as I help Admin feddit.uk), it would miss out on the variety of instances out there - books, games (video, tabletop, etc), franchises, etc that some people might be looking for.
So how about 2 big points: auto-selector (based on location) and answer a couple of questions.
I think the single biggest change that Mastodon can make, as far as this goes, is to shift the Explore->Posts feed to the Home tab. Just do it like Twitter or Bluesky, make the discovery feed the first thing a new user encounters.
Lemmy is better for on-boarding on this front as they have the Local and All feeds from the start. Just having that front and centre (defaulting to Local, as you don’t want to overwhelm them) would be a big help.
