    “Upon further investigation … ICE was unable to identify an officer or officers who asked O.C.G. if he feared a return to Mexico,” said Brian Ortega, assistant field office director for ICE’s Enforcement and Removal Operations, in a sworn statement to the federal judge overseeing the lawsuit.

    That should say “future former assistant field office director”, because he effectively quit his job when he made the decision not to perjure himself in defense of the Administration, even if he hasn’t been formally notified yet.

      Why does this question about if he fears a return to Mexico seem to be so important? Genuinely curious. Does it influence a potential asylum claim or something?

        I believe it does. A credible fear for your life should enable you an asylum claim in normal times.
