This is very outdated. It’s a decent quick guide, and most of it is still true, but I recommend looking up the current information. Between the parent company’s website and Wikipedia, it’s easy to find the full list.

I did this. Luckily, nothing was lost because I was only using it to learn at the time. It oddly boosted my confidence because if I could break the OS, I could learn how to use it.
Buy directly from the band to support them because streaming services pay pennies. That’s my excuse to buy merch from artists I love. Concert ticket sales don’t have very high margins, either.

Windows is a privacy nightmare. The OS is constantly sending data to Microsoft while being used.

Windows hogs resources. If you don’t shovel money out for new hardware every few years, your computer will run like shit.

The majority of malware is written for Windows. Not really a selling point for me, but it’s a bonus.

Linux is free.

Linux doesn’t force updates. You update when you want to, and it takes less than a minute to do.

I’m a huge advocate for switching to FOSS, but you’re being disingenuous by portraying it as supporting the EU. You’re boycotting US companies. I do the same for the benefit of privacy, frugality, and, honestly, fun. FOSS isn’t for most people, though.
I have heard that Nextcloud is pretty buggy. Libre Office is a Microsoft Office replacement, which is mainly the function of Nextcloud.
Home Assistant has a pretty steep learning curve, but totally worth it in the end. The voice assistant software is still in its early stages, same with cellphone software.
I love that you’re spreading awareness, but I wanted to warn others. There are many lists of FOSS alternatives out there!
