I didn’t see many legitimate answers to your question here so I’ll try. Forget the details such as specific processor and memory. Don’t get lost in the details of this anology.

Imagine you have a very basic computer and a very advanced, powerful computer. You install Lubunutu on each. The basic computer might require 5% of it’s resources just to run the operating system. The advanced computer needs just 0.5% of it’s resources to run the OS.

This sounds like a big difference. 10x more resources required for the basic computer! Really though one has 95% left to run other things and one has 99.5%.

If I gave you two glasses of water that were 95% full and 99.5% full you could easily tell the difference between the two. One is basically overflowing and the other is just full. You wouldn’t describe either as being half full though.

Now imagine you put something like Fedora workstation on that basic computer. This OS is designed for powerful workstations not basic hardware. The basic computer is going to struggle to run it. Let’s say it uses 30% of it’s resources just to run and spikes to 70% usage when you open anything else.

Put that half full glass of water next to the others. Definitely a big difference and you’re going to know it.

Things like Lubunutu aren’t designed to make powerful computers fast it’s meant to make more basic hardware useable. The powerful computer is going to be fast no matter what and you probably want some of the features left out of an OS designed for pure efficiency.

Alpine Linux’s storage requirements are measured in MBs. My router runs a version of Linux. Supercomputers run versions of Linux. Software should be matched to hardware and needs.

    Hopefully this helps you!

  • Hello!

As an American I would strongly recommend against visiting here from Mexico especially if you have never done so before. I have no deep knowledge of the visa system so I can’t help with specifics.

Here is an article about recent detentions of legitimate visa holders.

    https://www.axios.com/2025/03/20/tourists-us-residents-detained-arrested-deported-ice-immigration-trump

I read through your post history and I don’t think you are trolling. You apparently represent almost everything being villainized here in the US. A gay Mexican furry is not someone I would recommend interacts with American law enforcement.

As part of entering the US law enforcement will demand to see your social media. They will search your electronics. They will look into your background. American law enforcement and especially our border officers will almost certainly not be friendly to someone like you. If you feel safe visiting the US right now being who you are then you shouldn’t trust your own judgement on this. Talk to you friends about this. Talk to anyone who is telling you it is a bad idea and really listen to them.

Personally I also have concerns about your reason for travel. I can’t believe someone who loves you would encourage this travel. I can’t believe someone living in the US right now would tell you it’s a good place. There are many wonderful, amazing things about the US. There are also terrible things and right now at this moment those bad things are far more important.

I don’t know this person you want to visit. I don’t know you. I’m just a random person on the internet. However, reading some of your posts I would urge caution in this sort of distant relationship. How are your feelings clouding your judgement? Please talk to your friends and if available supportive family about this whole situation. Do not dismiss their concerns if they have any.

Tell him to come visit you or pick a foreign convention to attend together. If he isn’t willing to do that for you then you should be considering what you mean to him.

    Please be safe.

  • I’m surprised no one is really talking about asexuality. Sexuality is a spectrum. It’s entirely possible and perfectly fine if romantic relationships aren’t as important to you as they are to other people.

I know people who spend entire nights crying and reinforcing their dogs separation anxiety because they can’t find a partner. Others that are much closer to retirement than college who have never had a serious romantic partner and don’t seek one.

You probably shouldn’t prioritize work over personal life. You also don’t have to be in relationships if you don’t want to. I would recommend keeping an open mind and not getting stuck on labels. If partners and relationships aren’t something you think about a lot that’s ok. If not having that bothers you then you might want to seek professional help to assist in figuring out why you’re avoiding relationships.

Also keep in mind that basically every country on the planet heavily encourages marriage and children so get used to skipping all those options on your taxes and benefits.
