Saleh@feddit.orgto World News@lemmy.world•Temperatures reach 46C in Spain as Europe heatwave continuesEnglish2·13 hours agoFor new buildings that is already case. For older buildings there is limits to how well you can retrofit them with new heating/cooling/insulation systems. Lots of building are messed up, because changes to insulation and heating/cooling lead to humidity and mold or worse mushrooms.
As an engineer i can tell you that a building being made of concrete and steel in no way indicates it to be safeguarded against fire. With how combustible a lot of interior has become over the past century, it can still turn into a flame engulfed hellhole, unless a high level of fire protection was achieved with proper firewalls and seals, containment design, extinguishing measures etc.
If you subject steel directly or rebar concrete to heat for a long time, the structural integrity will be permanently lowered, often requiring a building to be demolished and rebuilt after a larger fire.

That sounds like a recipe for cardiac arrest.
Saleh@feddit.orgto News@lemmy.world•‘Explosive increase’ of ticks that cause meat allergy in US due to climate crisis425·1 day agoYeah, but all ticks can do that. The “meat allergy ones” are a species that is only moving now because of climate change, which in no small part is also caused by emissions from factory farming.

Saleh@feddit.orgto Europe@feddit.org•Why more Germans can’t afford life on their wagesEnglish21·2 days agoI said it is equivalent in organization as it is a government run media outlet to further that governments interests abroad. DW is less blatant about it, but they definitevily push narratives and lies from the German government too.
Also Germany has the most “super rich” after the US and China. Germany definitively is an oligarchy, again just more subtle about it.

Some look for any way to squeeze you. Others are pretty decent and probably more efficient as they dont waste as many working hours on bullshit claims and claim resolution.
Also if i rent a car i want things to go smoothly. I got places to be. You make my life easy, ill happily pay again and do my best to make yours easy too.
Saleh@feddit.orgto Europe@feddit.org•Why more Germans can’t afford life on their wagesEnglish32·2 days agoDW is run by the federal government to further the image of Germany abroad. It is the equivalent in organization to Russia Today, Radio Free Europe and other government run foreign media outlets.
DW wants to promote an image of an open and discussive Germany, so they pick up on some issues as a reaction to the German issues already having become known, but they will not be proactive about it, e.g. run investigative Journalism.
Especially in regards to Palestine there have been huge turmoil as the DW arabic staff got very upset with the narratives they were told to push and now DW is backtracking a bit to not loose too much face with arabic speakers.
Saleh@feddit.orgto Europe@feddit.org•Why more Germans can’t afford life on their wagesEnglish121·2 days agoThe left party has had a consistent affordable living and long term inhrastructure investment program.
But they are successfully attacked by the alliance from far right to supposed “liberal” press and politicians on a basis of “stealing peoples income”, “doesnt work in practice”, “evil communists”, “Putin friends”, “lgbt lifestyle party” and other attacks.
Meanwhile parties like the social democrats or greens have moved significantpy to the right, embracing neolibetalism and since a few years open Racism and unconstitutional authoritarianism.
Like in the US on the federal level these “progressive liberals” would rather bring the fascists to power than embrace “left” policies. Note that a lot of whatbis now attacked as “left” used to be standard among conservatives in the 50s-70s when it comes to taxation and public investment.
Saleh@feddit.orgto Europe@feddit.org•Pro-Palestinian activists in Belgium damage equipment bound for UkraineEnglish8·3 days agoPeople have been protesting Elbit systems since many years and increasingly moved to direct action as the governments deliberately stayed deaf to the calls to stop cobtracts with and the operation of this company which isn’t knees deep, but deep diving into Israeli war crimes, crimes agains humanity, wars of aggression and illegal occupation.
It was and is madness to give such a company leverage by buying their products and obviously Elbit is deeply integrated into the Israelo state and intelligence apparatus. Makes you wonder how reliable the products are, if the Israeli government needs something to blackmail you with.
So i don’t think Iran has anything to do with it. We just see an escalation of people being fed up with the complicity in Israeli crimes.

Saleh@feddit.orgto Europe@feddit.org•Pro-Israel countries to block Irish efforts to sanction Israel at EU summitEnglish111·4 days agoIt was never about that. Germany loves being on the wrong side of history. Now they have an excuse.
Also fun fact. Remember Saddam Hussein? The former dictator of Iraq who massacred thousands of people with chemical weapons? His chemical weapons program was mostly built by German companies.
Then Saddam threatened Israel with those, so to make up with Israel, Germany gifted submarines running on hydrogen and likely being able to launch nuclear missiles. With the hydrogen drive they are practically undetectable so Israel could nuke a country and claim having nothing to do with it.
If it involves being bringing death and destruction to people considered inferior, there is a good chance Germany is on board with it.
It als gives healthy bones and natural anti depressants.
Seeing the sun rise over the snow as you take the train to work can be quite nice though. Who am i kidding we only get proper snow every 5 years now.

Saleh@feddit.orgto Technology@lemmy.world•In a First, America Dropped 30,000-Pound Bunker-Busters—But Iran’s Concrete May Be Unbreakable, Scientists SayEnglish13·4 days agoThe US intelligence community kept asserting that Iran is not pursuing a nuclear weapon as late as Spring 2025.
Nothing of this was based on consistent intelligence.
The last years saw up to 50°C in Northern Africa already. This will be the fate of Southern Europe, as the peak temperatures in the center and North of Europe will go to 45°C.
As the mean temperature rises roughly linear, so do the peak temperatures, but at a much faster rate. So 1,5-2°C increase in mean temperature often correspond to 5-7°C increase in peak temperatures.
