Yeah, it has been at least since I was that age and I’m in my late 30s now. Basically, if you don’t have wealthy parents (or at the very least, parents you can share a house with), you’re fucked.

I mean, the current minimum wage for 18-21s is £8.60 an hour. I wouldn’t work for that either, it’s not like you could support yourself on that wage. If I had kids that age, obviously I’d want them to get an education but I also wouldn’t force them to work for a pittance.

Join a union if you haven’t already. This is the absolute best way to meet organised activists.
