    Calophyllum trees are often called poon trees. They are known for their edible fruit and heartwood that is excellent for lumber.

    This tree I guess kinda resembles it but smells rank AF and produces fruits that are poisonous raw.

    Knowing Portuguese and going by its being descended from Latin, the scientific name for the tree is “stinky manure”?

    It appears that “poon” has been used as a plant name since the 1690s. It looks like its other use was first recorded in the 1960s.
