I assume this is targeted at things like the AI voiceovers reading random reddit stories or comments alongside generic video content, probably also AI generated.

I fucking hate those videos, I’m so bad at recognising them from thumbnail and title alone and always get irrationally angry whenever I stumble into starting to watch one.

It’s a pretty clear conflict of interest that they do that IMO. It means they have direct monetary incentive to demonetize as many channels as possible so that they don’t have to revenue share. It’s pretty infamous how often creators lose their first day momentum on a video due to a false positive, but google actually makes more money from that happening.

On paper demonetizing crappy channels doesn’t sound like the worst thing in the world, but their track record is very poor with this kind of thing, and again they have a real incentive to make it create false positives (or at least not to prevent them) to increase their cut.

False positives. The thing that YouTube is famous for. If someone posts useful original content, sooner or later they’ll get some kind of false copyright strike or block.
