I’ve been out of the loop for the past few years and just started paying attention to PC parts again recently. Was Tons Hardware always this pro-NVIDIA and anti-AMD? This is the first article I’ve seen so far that isn’t raking NVIDIA over the coals for using AI to misrepresent performance and the MSRP basically being fake.
Meanwhile, TH here seems to be skeptical of the 9070’s performance and stock. Which is fair enough given AMD’s recent history, except that reports have been that AMD has been shipping units for months and was just trying to land on pricing before release. And the pricing that was announced seems pretty good, or at least better than what AMD has been doing the last couple generations. And AMD’s performance claims seem to match what consumer expectations for a generational improvement.
Wow yeah, compare to these two (three) titles
Jayztwocents, Linus, Paul’s Hardware, Hardware Canucks, Digital Foundry… Not that I always watch every channel but it seems like a pretty strong consensus.
You know, I don’t know what article you’ve read, but even the verdict at the very top already picks up your points. The article goes on to question whether the 5070 can compete with the 9070 or 9070 XT, even at its MSRP, which it also doubts it will sell for.
They describe the 5070 as “faster GPU for less money with new features should make this one of the best graphics cards, but we have some concerns”.
Because compared to the 4070, its direct predecessor, it is?
It’s interesting (and I don’t mean that in a passive-aggressive way) how different the conclusions are for the card (e.g, TPU has a seemingly lukewarm-ish review that isn’t praising it or raking it over the coals, and it’s easy to find plenty of reviews doing the latter). It’s unironically prompting me to think about the situation more critically myself, whereas if it was universally praised or derided I’d just save the brainpower and accept the universal conclusion lol.
