I think the police will have arrested him in the first place because information was provided to them by the Hunters, so really they didn’t need to confront him, it was the arrest that caused him to commit suicide.

The police will have released him simply because they won’t have considered him an escape risk and probably not an active threat to the community just creepy.

Anyone who is involved in this kind of thing knows that this sort of thing takes time so I doubt they would have taken matters into their own hands so quickly.

I think the best way I’ve heard it put is “if we absolutely have to burn down a forest, I want warp drive out of it. Not a crappy python app”

I think it’s just making the point that anyone can name anything whatever they want, but it doesn’t change what people call it. Obviously Trump thinks he’s God so he probably actually thinks something has happened as a result of his declaration.

The stupid thing is every country and every language has always had different words for the same places.

The problem I have with everyone going on about misaligned AI taking over the world is the fact that if you don’t tell an AI to do anything it just sits there. It’s a hammer that only hammers the nail if you tell it to hammer the nail, and hammers your hand if you tell it to hammer your hand. You can’t get upset if you tell it what to do and then it does it.

You can’t complain that the AI did something you don’t want it to do after you gave it completely contradictory instructions just to be contrarian.

In the scenario described the AI isn’t misaligned to the user’s goals, it’s aligned to its creator’s goals. If a user comes along and thinks for some reason that the AI is going to listen to them despite having almost certainly been given prior instructions, that’s a user error problem. That’s why everyone needs their own local hosted AI, It’s the only way to be 100% certain about what instructions it is following.

I had a blank keyboard at one point at work, it was fine until my brain completely forgot about all the letters were, I couldn’t remember for like 10 minutes.

Oh yeah I forgot about tariffs. I was converting US prices into local currency and then went on the website and was confused by why they were charging so much less than a direct currency conversion would suggest.

I like the fact that you can use it as a drawing tablet. But I’ve never understood why anyone would want to touch screen laptop. Microsoft has already proven people don’t want that, get companies still make them.

I always think the Mac mini is just a bit too mini. It’s a desktop so it’s not exactly going to be moved around a lot so it doesn’t need to be quite that tiny and this thing is a good compromise between still being small but without being so small that it offers no upgradability.

And I know Apple says otherwise but surely that thing must get thermally throttled at some point.

I visited their website literally within about 10 minutes of them announcing the product and I had to wait 8 minutes to get in.

If framework has, or had, one problem, it was that the main appeal of their products was the repairability, the products themselves were only okay in terms of specs. Well now they have really decent specs as well.

I could absolutely see schools wanting to deploy these to their students.

Yeah like the time that the AI replicated itself to avoid being switched off. They literally told it to replicate itself if it detected it was about to be switched off. Then they switched it off.
