Good luck, but creating a community is much more difficult than reusing an existing one.
Maybe try to reach out to @[email protected] to see if they would consider lowering the rules?
I raised the issue to @[email protected] a few days ago, he’s going to work on this so that Piefed parses the links created by Lemmy autocompletion correctly
It is indeed not ideal that Lemmy autocompletion generates improper links, but it’s where the majority of the Fediverse users are, and most of them are going to keep using that feature, it’s too convenient not to
The weekly post would always be pinned, people can ask questions there whenever they join
The post would be replaced weekly, but there would always be one available
Lemmy.zip has an automation that sends a DM to new joiners, maybe the admins will consider redirect to that community
You will be able to customize the message sent on your instance, so this should still be helpful
Calling it something neutral allows to redirect other new joiners there too, from Lemmy/Mbin/whatever 4th option comes up in the future.
[email protected] is more future proof than the !asklemmy communities.
Speaking about Inktober, there’s this community [email protected]
We’re definitely aware, there’s an ongoing discussion about reviewing the admin panel as well as permissions on https://chat.piefed.social/
I just checked the thread, they were using LW and having issues with captchas for whatever reason

Depends, to be honest it’s kind of a moving environment, options can come and go, so I see @[email protected]’s point.
I like PieFed, but down the line once things are stabilized we probably need to revisit all the settings to streamline things a bit
https://lemmyapps.com/ has been shadow banned for at least six months
In this context, it seems more likely for someone to post a banned Thrediverse domain than just swear
It seems like a 5th comment should be there, but if one of you linked directly to piefed.social or another blacklisted domain it won’t appear
You don’t need to be Canadian or have an account on their instance to raise them that their documentation is incorrect
Also, some instances have some cool guides like the lemmy.ca Getting Started Guide, they of course will not tell you that you should move to some other instance - see e.g. their piefed section (I will save you a click: it is empty). Also I note the outright misinformation in their How to Block an Instance guide:
Have you tried raising this to them? Knowing them, it’s probably either because they didn’t have time to update the documentation, and the blocking thing is probably a mistake, not deliberate misinformation.
Things change fast, I sometimes have to double check with Piefed devs how exactly features work nowadays compared to a few months ago
(both free-trade and ah… otherwise cough pirate cough - I am just kidding, this is not Reddit, nor LW, we can fucking say “pirate” here:-P as you learn more about the history of the Threadiverse though, that sentence will take on multiple who new meanings:-D oh heck I will just say them now: one is that cusswords iirc are filtered on LW so you can’t say “fuck”, and another is that they famously kicked out their piracy community out of fear of losing their license in whatever nation they are hosted in)
That was a long tangent, I stopped reading here to be honest 😅
Thanks, I’ll make you a mod tomorrow!
