That doesn’t answer my question.
That doesn’t answer my question.
You agree with Trump about something?! How dare you, nazi!
they stop offering their app on the Google Play and Apple App stores
…but y tho
Found Godwin :D
“Anyone who disagrees with me is a Trump supporter and a nazi!”
See, I too can make up things that you didn’t say and put it in quotes and pretend like you did.
If you want to claim it was a stupid thing to say, I will agree with you 100%. If you want to claim that it was a tacit endorsement specifically of Trump, you are just wrong and spreading disinformation.
Why willingly leave the market? Why not let them be forcibly removed? Signal is a US company. They’re not doing business in Sweden. It’s not like they’re going to face some kind of legal consequences. Just don’t comply.
Here is the tweet
I know exactly what you’re referring to.
if that’s not the most flagrant Trump bootlicking, I don’t know what is
I agree, you don’t know what is. Agreeing with a single decision someone makes is not an endorsement. But that’s exactly the kind of irrational dichotomic reaction I expect from society these days.
And here is the backpedal
I don’t see anything here that could be construed as backpedaling. If he were smart he would have, but if anything, he doubled down several times.
I believe what I read.
You didn’t read that, you made it up.
Yeah I wasn’t trying to accuse you of that, just pointing out why I don’t care much for these types of platforms in general.
There’s not much point in “post and ghosting” to platform if you’re not going to engage with its’ users. You might as well just direct people to your blog instead.
There is not and never was any endorsement of Trump. I wish people would stop spreading such wild disinformation.
He also never backpedaled.
I couldn’t care less about what’s happening in the lives of celebrities or companies, or the unsupported political opinions of random strangers, but I guess I’m a weirdo in that way.
you don’t agree with one semantic point
This has nothing to do with semantics.
a company can’t afford to just not release a product they worked on
I already addressed this above.
They talked about why it didn’t turn out the way they wanted
And I talked about how I don’t care why. And neither should you.
You don’t do things bit by bit if you’re not trying to be sneaky.
Yes? You do. Changing the entire direction of a company doesn’t happen overnight, regardless of whether you want to be sneaky or not.
Is that a normal metric for monolithic social media?
Maybe not for you. For me, I use social media as a way to sew and cultivate personal relationships. Someone I know posts something interesting and I might pick up the phone and call them and talk about it or we discuss it the next time we see each other. Or maybe there’s a local event that someone shares and looks fun and I ask to join them.
I’m saying that if they were trying to make some kind of sneaky change, they wouldn’t have taken five minutes to talk about it in their big event.
I’m not worried at all about them being “sneaky”, I am worried about them abandoning their mission. Being upfront about why they’re doing that changes nothing.
I’ve only done that a handful of times, quite ineffectively
Same.
monolithic social media
I…don’t know what that means?
Lemmy is optimal for chatting with random people. If I want to share personal things, I prefer to do that with people I actually know.
The answer is that they’re abandoning their principles to pursue some other market segment.
Although I guess it could be said to be like Porsche and Lamborghini selling SUVs to support the development of their sports cars…
I threw up my own Pixelfed instance. It was awful. I’m much happier with GoToSocial.
Plus I’m yet to run into a single person I actually know IRL on the fedi.
So let them ask. Put the onus on Apple.
