Was talking with my brother the other night. I was saying. I wonder if folks in nazi germany stood around and where like: This guy is pretty wierd and these things he is doing is wack. He talks like he is going to be a new kaiser or Charlemagne but his supporters are like. Oh don’t be dramatic its not the end of democracy.

There was large scale fighting in the streets between communists, social democrats and nazis. Unfortunately, communists and social democrats weren’t much more friendly to each other than to the nazis. Hitler was elected with about 32% of the votes - he never had a majority, only a plurality, but in contrast to how the AfD (a German nazi party) is treated today the other parties could not agree on a different chancellor.

Nah back then a lot of people genuinely supported monarchy. Remember at the time Germany had only recently become democratic (like ten years before) and it wasn’t working out well. So a bunch of people liked the idea of a “strong man” taking the reigns again

Although the thing is there have always been the monarchy nutters but a lot of nutter things have become actual views enough folks have to swing elections so I would not be surprised if some big monarchy swing was underway. Its like the next step of acceptance with maga.
